Working as an Intern at Transmeri Group

20.4.2026

Niki is working as a sustainability intern at Transmeri Group during spring 2026. He holds a Master of Science (Tech.) degree in Environmental Technology from LUT University in Lappeenranta. Niki’s major was Sustainability Science & Solutions.

Niki has always liked mathematics and the natural sciences. When it was time to choose a career path, her interests naturally turned toward sustainability, which brings together many of the things he is interested in. “A sustainability professional needs deep expertise in the subject; it requires technical competence, and in sustainability work you collaborate a lot with stakeholders. I want to continue working on topics where you engage with people—this is what makes the work meaningful to me,” Niki says. Sustainability is a cross-cutting function throughout the company, and it is interesting to see how the broad strategic lines evolve across the entire organization as we advance these efforts, Niki continues.

Niki’s internship has consisted of preparing the Transmeri Group’s emissions and carbon footprint calculations for last year, as well as compiling the sustainability report for 2025. In addition, he has worked on smaller projects, for example related to developing emissions accounting.

According to Niki, it has been great during this internship period to see that even though the Group has different business operations and the companies have different operating models, they can still be brought together into one sustainability perspective. Sustainability themes and metrics tie together the overall Group made up of different companies’ businesses. “I have also been able to make development proposals for improving emissions accounting and related processes, and I’m happy to say that some of my suggestions have progressed all the way to implementation. In particular, we have managed to clarify operating models related to data collection and processing,” Niki says.

Niki feels the internship has been absolutely fantastic. The office has an encouraging vibe and a positive atmosphere. Everyone greets each other, people are in good spirits, and help is always available when needed. The work–life balance is in a good place in this company, Niki reflects. The onboarding was thorough and I quickly got real tasks on my desk, which made things concrete. I’ve realized that I learn best by doing, and that has worked well here.

In the future, Niki wants to work with data and hopes his role will include analysis and stakeholder engagement. It would be great to be responsible for larger sustainability initiatives in the future as well, Niki concludes.
